Finca del Sol

Finca del Sol was my first solo short term rental investment and a project that deepened my understanding of how intentional design and hospitality come together to shape a memorable guest experience.

Inspired by my travels and the warmth of Spanish architecture, I envisioned a home that felt both elevated and welcoming, a retreat designed for gathering, slowing down, and reconnecting with the people around you.

The name reflected that vision. Finca, meaning estate or countryside home, paired with del Sol, meaning of the sun, captured the warmth, ease, and sense of escape I wanted guests to experience.

Throughout the home, furniture, furnishings, and hospitality focused details were selected with both comfort and connection in mind. King sized beds anchored each bedroom, while layered indoor and outdoor gathering spaces and a fully stocked kitchen created opportunities for guests to spend meaningful time together.

Outdoors, I transformed the backyard through a new landscape and outdoor living plan, including a diamond grid turf and paver design and distinct zones for dining, entertaining, lounging, and gathering. The result extended the experience of the home outdoors and created a more complete hospitality environment.

Finca del Sol also became an important evolution in how I thought about design. As both the owner and operator, I was able to experience the relationship between the physical environment, guest experience, hospitality, and property performance firsthand.

After two years of hosting, and living in the home myself for a season, I made the bittersweet decision to sell the property to another short term rental investor who continues to operate it as a vacation home today.

Finca del Sol became an important chapter in the evolution of Maximize, reinforcing a belief that continues to shape my work today: the most memorable spaces are designed not only around how they look, but around how people experience them.
